his
photo was sent in to us by AD31 Association Life Member
James Dewasme who was aboard the Tidewater in the early
Fifties. The photographer snapped this as AD31 passed under
the Cooper River Bridge in Charleston, SC after her shakedown
cruise prior to being returned to service in 1952.
The Tide was built
in Charleston in the waning years of World War II and when
the war ended, it was decommissioned for a short time. It
was recommissioned in 1951 and remained in service until
1971 when it was mothballed and sold to Indonesia for use
as a utility ship in the Indonesian Navy.
