Photos of the Carrier Navy - some excellent photography
that only sailors and their families might appreciate. The Navy at work
- really. This is a file that you'll need to download an view on your
computer. It is in Microsoft PowerPoint format. Right
Click and follow the prompts.
1957-58 Cruise Book - zipped scans of the book were
made by Jim Meara who was aboard the Tidewater for that Med Cruise. Division
pictures as well as a few of Jim's personal snapshots are included. The
file is rather large - about 6 Mb so if you are modem attached, it may
take a short while. You will need WinZip to unzip this file for viewing
on your PC - all pictures are in JPEG format.
USS Tidewater Documents - Ensign Lou Steger was the
disbursing officer aboard the Tidewater in the mid-Fifites. He saved some
documents which tell a little bit about what it was like in those days.
Included are copies of the Plan of the Day for Dec. 5, 1955, a roster
of Officers and their duty assignments, a commendation letter to Lou from
the USS Tidewater Captain, and a personal letter to Bill Cook from Lou
which accompanied these documents when he sent them to us for display
at the web site. The size of this file is approximately 3.5 Mb and is
in Zipped format. All scans are in JPEG format.

The Beginning - the early years of the Tidewater - photos taken by
George Lisee who was a member of the crew aboard the Tidewater during
the dedication and commissioning of the ship at the close of World War
II. They show photos of some of the crew as well as some scenes of the
surrounding Charleston, SC Shipyard. There are 46 photos in total and
the contents are zipped. The file size is 1.62 Mb.
