ere is a rare view of the Tidewater at sea.
Most of the time she sat in one of two places - the
Norfolk Destroyer Sub Piers or in Naples Harbor. So
many months were spent in port that sailors liked to
say that the Tidewater couldn't get off the pile of
coffee grounds underneath. This picture was taken prior
to 1962 before she was refitted for a DASH hanger on
the fantail.
